Blended Learning

In a 21st century classroom, the teacher becomes a facilitator, students become active owners of their learning, modalities of learning expand, and learning is personalized. Transforming today’s traditional classroom to the 21st century classroom is a complex endeavor.

Blended learning focuses on combining the best practices of traditional classroom instruction and the use of technology to improve learning outcomes for students. Teachers can customize students’ learning to fit their individual needs and students receive control over time, place, path, or pace as well as immediate feedback.

Starting August 2015 Colegio Karl C. Parrish adopted phase one of a formal blended learning education program. The program design is based on best-practice research that has been carried out by Redbird Learning and Stanford University. This program is supported by our solid technology infrastructure and the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program we have for grades 3 through 12.

Pre-School

IMG_4329The Colegio Parrish Preschool program is based upon the values and experiences of the educators in Reggio Emilia, Italy.  This approach to preschool education sees the child as having surprising and extraordinary strengths and capabilities, a co-constructor of knowledge and identity in relationship with other children and adults.  This co-construction produces a rich child, active, competent and eager to go engage with the world.

Educators in Reggio Emilia have no intention of suggesting that their program should be looked at as a model to be copied in another country, rather their work should be considered as an educational experience that consists of practice and careful reflection that is continuously readjusted.  Every school has to look at its own culture and values before adapting the Reggio approach.  At Colegio Parrish we have taken the values and experiences of Reggio and applied them to our Colombian experience.  Below are listed the fundamental components of the Reggio approach as implemented at Colegio Karl C. Parrish Preschool.

Elementary

The Elementary School builds on the strong foundation laid out in preschool. It is our goal to make sure that each elementary student receives an equitable, rigorous and relevant education. In order to meet the needs of the whole child, the school has adopted programs to provide meaningful learning experiences which serve the academic, physical, and social needs of our students.

Our academics are based on internationally recognized standards and teaching is supported by our most recent significant achievement: the adoption of a Blended Learning Program. The entire faculty has undergone extensive training to implement this instructional strategy meaningfully.

KCP confidently challenges our students to think critically and devie solutions to relevant problems, sparking the spirit of innovation in our them so they are ready to meet the demanding and ever changing needs of the 21st Century.

Secondary

KCP is dedicated to teaching students to be “excellent”. Secondary is the finishing grounds which support KCP’s mission, vision, and purpose. The challenge is not only that of teaching academics but character as well. Positive social behaviors are reinforced through Character Counts! and the instructional environment is enriched by Blended Learning making individualized instruction possible.

The Secondary School continues to add quality and variety to each student’s learning experience. The addition of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) courses allow students to explore and integrate a multilayer of skills to solve problems and create through collaborative projects. The addition of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is transforming the delivery process making possible the adoption of Blended Learning.

The athletics program has seen significant changes included upgraded facilities. Coaches receive monthly training which is transforming the athletics program into a highly competitive and disciplined experience.

Secondary addresses students as they arrive at the crossroads of adulthood. Many habits that will carry them to the successes in life are discovered and nurtured during these formative years. Colegio Karl C. Parrish enthusiastically accepts the responsibility of developing academic aptitude and emotional fortitude in conjunction with the support of parents as we address the challenges of the 21st Century.
